Various researchers have noted MGM's eternal problem with Flip the Frog: that they thought he was too ugly and not humanlike enough. John Kenworthy is the first I'm aware of to have recorded the final step in the conflict: that Iwerks finally offered to redesign Flip as an actual human, but the series was dropped and the plan didn't take effect.

Hey Thad! I like the idea of a rejected animal model on Willie, but the whole story is even weirder. With a few slight changes, that rejected human Flip BECAME the first Willie Whopper model.
