Today I'm posting the wonderful "Scrappy's Ghost Story" from 1935. I really like how Harrison, Gould and Love interpreted the Scrappy design in this cartoon! The quality and integrity of the drawing, not to mention the sheer amount, is really quite amazing. The layouts and backgrounds are also top notch. Too bad it's not better known.

Wow--what a cool cartoon! I agree--the layout, animation and overall treatment is A-one! The music is quite good, too! This one made my Halloween...thanks!
I just found this blog today, and I LOVE it. I am constantly on the look out for spooky cartoons and music from 1910-1940's. I found this post in particular, and was so excited because I've never seen this one before. I have the CD Halloween Stomp, a collection of spooky jazz numbers, and they used audio bits from this cartoon. I always wondered where they came from.
I have that disc as well and didn't know where the music came from either although, in hind sight, Scrappy (Milton Knight version) is right there on the cover reacting to the witch. Incidently, the other samples ("ten, eleven twelve, thir-teen" etc.) are from 'Jasper in a Jam': a Puppetoon.
